Trend of the Week

Getting ready for colder nights.

It’s sad, but true. With Labor Day on Monday, summer comes to a close. The mornings are a bit crisper, and the evenings whisper that there is cooler air coming our way. This labor day, why not take an opportunity to lounge around a bit. Watch a movie at home, read a book, just don’t work! Here are some of the great lounge pants you can find at your local Goodwill this Labor Day!

Nap Time makes this soft, luxury cotton pair, which is perfect for those remaining days of summer, but can transition nicely as the cold air approaches.

Moving into warmer bottoms and cooler weather, soft knit is our favorite. It conforms to your body and stretches when you need it to stretch.

Sonoma got it right with knitwear that’s stylish and thin, yet long-john type of texture….who’s starting to get sleepy?

Or how about this cute, trendy plaid pair by Victoria’s Secret PINK?

So why not shop a little this Labor Day, and then take the opportunity to lounge a little too? You can find all of these items and more at our 50% off sale this Labor Day!

Back to School

We were all teenagers at one point right? Remember how important it was to fit in? To have the right outfit?

Back to school shopping is an important rite of passage for any teenager, and Goodwill has the clothes you need to stand out in the crowd (while fitting in of course!)

Goodwill has some great finds for all of your teen back to school shopping needs.

Plaids are very popular this year. This year we have the CUTEST plaids!

Mossimo is a great teen brand. This plaid dress can be worn on its own, with leggings or jeans. It can be belted or worn with a scarf (great clash in plaids). Mossimo dress size XS: $6.99, Scarf: $3.99.

Speaking of leggings, This outfit is perfectly teen: A hoodie and a long t-shirt seems to be a staple in almost every teen outfit. Make it grey and you are IN! Delia Small t-shirt, $3.49. Miss Chevous hoodie: $4.99, size Small.

Grey t-shirt, the timeless color goes great with a trendy scarf and cargo shorts (adjustable size). This is great for just at the start of the fall. Shirt is again Mossimo, $3.49, shorts made by Insides for $3.99, and the scarf goes for $5.99. What a perfect staple accessory!

You can find these outfits and more for about 1/10 of what they’d cost brand new at the Goodwill on Archer. Come by today!

Comfy and casual tops.

Don’t you just love your comfy clothes? Everyone loves clothes that feel like a warm fuzzy hug. Not to mention that feeling of a knit shirt that has made it through years of washing and is being held together by threads. The paper thin t-shirt is a great example of this trend.

For this week’s trend, we pulled anytime clothes that are “oh-so-soft.” All of these items are being held this week for our trend of the week email subscribers, but they’ll be back on the rack on Saturday if you want to purchase, so come and get them while they’re hot! Side note: to subscribe to Goodwill’s trend of the week email, just visit: http://www.goodwilldenver.org/shop/sales

First up, Hollister is such a fun brand.  This pink shirt looks like it’s regular cotton, but we can tell you, it is pajama soft.  The coral color goes great with a little sunny glow, so head over to the spray tan booth!  This shirt is very flattering for those with a longer torso.  Size medium, $3.49.

Cachet is a great mall store with clothes are fun, classy and chic. This dress is so thin it's almost a whisper on you, and is a knit-rayon blend. From the pattern, you wouldn’t suspect it was stretchy and silken soft.  Cachet is great, but it is expensive and if you are a smart thrifter, you wait patiently for items like these to show up in stores. These dresses typically start at about $80.00 brand new. This beauty is a mere $6.99. Size: Medium.

Simple, sleek and another softie, this shirt has just a little bit of feminity with the small ruffles at the shoulder. Another rayon and knit blend, this just wraps around the body so nicely and has such a fun, unique color. Eggplant is supposed to be in this fall, and this Express shirt is perfect for  any casual event. Size Medium. $3.49.

Have a great time finding these thin shirts and more at Goodwill's Archer store this week!

Designer Shoes

Don’t you just love finding designer shoes at bargain prices? We always wonder who donated these designer items and what they’re wearing today. We sure are happy to wear their donations. These shoes are gorgeous!

First up, a pair of Vigotti sandals: $50 new, on sale for $7.00. A unique and different color, these shoes are definitely ready to take you out on the town!

Next, these gorgeous Michelangelo slides, made specifically as wedding-wear. These normally go for about $50 new, but at Goodwill they are going for $5.99. We love the mix of the pretty satin bows and the clear heel. They are perfect for weddings, but these can be worn for pretty much any night on the town, or even paired with a cute pair of jeans.

Next up, some Tulip slides: $7. This shoe is so cool, a great find for summer. A cute heart trinket is just such a unique and personal addition to the black and pearl/purple sandals.

 Smashing Skirts!

Fun, flirty and fancy! That's what you’ll find this summer at Goodwill! These refreshing, fun, fancy and flirtatious skirts are such great finds. Believe me, you won’t want to miss out on having these great items in your wardrobe this summer.

First, Merona did a great job with this geometric floral pattern in a light stretchy, iron free size 4X skirt. Lovely for a summer wedding or just a day at the office, and this will go with almost anything! $5.00

Or check out this colorful and breezy summer skirt from 9and Co. You can almost taste the blueberry and green apple amidst the lovely vanilla on this one.

For more discrete tastes, try this size 8-Odille, skirt, going for a mere $4.00. We love the mixture of pinks and floral patterns and with such great movement, this would be perfect for a night perusing the 16th Street Mall and people-watching!

Last and not least is this lightweight, tasteful brown and pink leaf-patterned skirt with a fun lacy edging to it. This is a size medium and could be worn to church, or a business meeting or just a nice Sunday brunch.

Belts!!!

Belts are such a necessary part of any person’s wardrobe, but sometimes they can be so hard to find. Honestly, it is so hard to find the perfect belt, and often I’ll end up using a belt way too long because I just can’t find a good replacement.

This week, at the Goodwill located in Golden, I got lucky and found some fabulous belts!

My best find by far was this awesome Harley Davidson black leather belt with flames embellished on the leather, and a sturdy buckle with the classic Harley stamp. I would have purchased it at the 4.00, but alas it was too small. This belt is definitely casual or for going out, but it is best worn on jeans (and on a Harley!). It was $5.00 and I know they go for $30-$40 new.

This season, fancy unique cloth belts in neutral colors of silver and gold, are a perfect accessory for any summer outfit. Again, the price is nice for a mere $4.00 These can go with jeans or be a belt for a loose dress that needs gathering. What is really great about silver and gold is that they will go with any other color. These would make for a great travel accessory for your next vacation! These are more of a one size fits all.

It is always great to find a reversible leather brown and black belt. This particular belt has a classic charcoal buckle. The belt is medium in size and a great business travel accessory. At 2.00, this is a steal! I see these belts in Macy’s going for around $40.00.

The Mossimo, large leather braided belt set at 22.00, was selling for 6.00. This is a fantastic deal, and the leather felt soft and pliable. Never used, and a nice Target find. Again, this is good jean wear, but can also accessorize a loose flowing long dress.

If you are interested in purchasing one or ALL of these belts, hit the Golden Goodwill before they are set free over the weekend to be snatched up by hungry belt buyers!

Top of the line purses, bags and more!

I was lucky enough to attend the opening of the Goodwill in Parker, on 1100 Main St, Parker, CO and found a fantastic array of bags and purses that anyone would be jealous of.

The first bag I found turns into a Doggie dish set. This item was completely unused, and adorable in pink and black, opening up into a food and water dish! It’s cute, extravagant, yet fashionable and useful little item. For $3.99, you will be the talk of the doggie town!

The second bag is a large day or night Sondra Roberts white leather bag for $4.99. New, this bag would probably lighten your pocketbook by at least $90 anywhere else. Quite a deal!

The third purse is small, but it packs a powerful punch. This Coach clutch will put a bounce in anyone’s step, and goes perfectly with any spring wardrobe. Again, at $39.99, for a bag that usually goes for over $200.00 new, your wallet will enjoy being in the clutch without being too thin.

Last, and of course best, a PRADA purse! I drooled over this purse and contemplated purchasing it. At $80.00, this is a deep discount for a bag that would normally go for around $500.00 or more!. With beautiful colors and so fashionably designed, this style and color is one that will never be too trendy and can provide a lifetime of thrifty happiness.

Did you ever think you would see Prada, Coach and Sondra Roberts located in your local Goodwill? It might be a good time to start looking. If you are interested in purchasing any of these fabulous fun finds, they are located at the Goodwill in Parker on Main St. Just let the manager know you saw the bag online and are interested in purchasing them.

Swimming Season is Soon approaching!

Men don’t seem to be as excited about thrifting or donating and purchasing used clothes as women are. I think it might be because lots of men don’t really enjoy shopping, but they should! At the very least, it’s good for everyone to recognize the importance of recycling. This week, I’m focusing on men’s shorts. I found some fun, barely used shorts that almost any man could wear. These excellent pairs of shorts are often found in places like Macy’s or Nordstrom’s.

First is a pair of Tommy Hilfiger dress shorts. These are size XXL at $3.99. Inside liner and black in color with same color pinstripes, average length. They are a great pair of dressier shorts, but will still help keep you cool.

Second, is another pair Hilfiger shorts sized XXL at $3.99. This pair of shorts would do very well on hot days with their lightweight cotton. These shorts can be worn dressed up or down, so they’re great for travel! Not too long or short.

Lastly, and maybe best of all are these knee-length surf shorts. They’re a size Large and have never been worn. The shorts are made by Kirra, which makes funky boarding clothing. Usually these shorts go for about $40.00 new, and these are a mere $1.99! Now that’s a steal!

If you want to come in and purchase any of these items, you will need to go to the Goodwill located on South Broadway and Archer.

Jackets are In! (Posted April 14, 2010)

Blazers Galore! Beautiful, and all kinds of sizes!

This week, I visited the Leetsdale Goodwill, and have to say, I found some really great blazers. A few were really unique, and great finds. Others were classic and mainly for business, but blazers can make anyone look great!

I found a fabulous Valerie Stevens spring blazer floral pattern and adds that “je ne sais quois” to dress-up denims or adds flavor to a neutral suit! $5.00, size 10.

Also in the same size and price (10, $5.00), was an Ann Taylor black blazer with slightly lighter wide pinstripes. This provides a slimming and always a classy look.

It is always fun to find DKNY in a thrift store. This particular blazer comes from their Essence line. Neutral goes with anything and DKNY is a great add to the closet! Size XL, $5.00.

Lastly, the most unique blazer for the day is this fabulous little intricately made blazer in a pale lavender color. Tiny little snaps hold the blazer in place so the butterfly whole. Patterns sewn into a blazer like this truly make a statement! Wei Na Sie makes this, and although its medium, I find Asian designs usually run smaller, so I would consider it a small. Nice price at $5.00, and truly a unique purchase because I cannot find this brand anywhere, and with all that intricate stitching, must have been hand sewn.

These blazers are held at the Goodwill located at: 5000 Leetsdale Drive, Denver, CO, 80222 - Feel free to go on in and request to see or purchase.

Enjoy!
